A taxiing Boeing 747 on an airport runway crashes into a crew bus. Two jet fuel trucks collide and explode. Four police officers are kidnapped. A commuter train jumps its tracks and runs out onto a busy expressway. A man leaps from the top of a forty story building and survives. A final showdown on Chicago's lakefront as four hundred bicycle racers rush to their finish line among exploding cars and gunfire. And… a love story! In WITNESSES, MIKE BRADLEY starts a new life sponsored by the US Government's Witness Protection Program. During a weather delay at Chicago's O'Hare airport he meets SUSAN O'CONNOR, who is a former New York cop with a secret past. Mike's destination is Phoenix and Susan's is Baton Rouge, but they are stuck together waiting out a storm. Mike and Susan meet, become friends, and even glimpse love until a man in the crowd seems too interested in Mike. The chase is on... Mike is a marked man and malevolent enforcer Sammy G.'s job is to seek revenge for the years being served in prison by his employer, who Mike helped convict. Sammy G.'s killers eliminate Mike's government escort and Mike and Susan are caught in an airport thick with the enforcer's soldiers. They narrowly escape to the city… a city controlled by Sammy G. Sammy G. has an edge... he's a DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agent gone bad, and with his ability to manipulate information and authorities, Mike and Susan are unable to depend on local law-enforcement officials for help. Relentlessly pursued through Chicago with no identification and less than thirty dollars, Mike and Susan must re-establish contact with their government Witness Protection sponsors or face Sammy G. and his army of dirty agents.
